Sunday to Monday Connections
Some ideas to help you and your church think about living After Sunday
Here are some ideas and good practices that you might like to encourage as part of your Sunday worship or at other times at your church to strengthen the connection between faith and daily life and work.
Liturgy and Worship
- Pray for the work and workplaces of those present in the intercessions
- ‘What will you be doing at 11 tomorrow?'- slot for a personal reflection from a member of the congregation
- Have a Work Sunday where people come to work wearing their work clothes and bring an item from work to offer
- Focus on different types of occupations in special services
- Sermons about work in its broadest sense
- Have a short time to share in pairs after the dismissal to focus on what the dismissal will mean in practice this coming week
- Prayer resources and calendar to focus on supporting people at work and addressing the challenges they face
Exploring Vocation and Ministry
- Offering workshops to explore vocation for everyone e.g. Have you seen a Burning Bush?
- Small group opportunities to explore and affirm vocation in the everyday
- Special services to commission people in their vocations in the daily life /dispersed church
Raising the profile of what people do
- Photo boards at the back of church with people in their everyday contexts
- Articles in the Parish Magazine about faith and work and the jobs people do and issues they face
- Organise visits to different workplaces for interested groups
Reflecting with God
- Help groups to do a little theological reflection by using the ‘Living Faith' process
- Using theological reflection to address issues in the gathered church at PCC meetings etc
- Encourage different occupation groups to discuss common issues and explore the Hot Topics on the After Sunday website
